Our numeracy program this year will put students face-to-face with questions that often have no definitive answer. My math philosophy has always been that the learning is found in the process and not the product. That is to say, we will seldom be focusing on getting the right answer, but rather on strategies and processes that allow us, as mathematicians, to understand how to use math. Through a variety of projects, collaborative tasks, summative assessments and technology-based learning activities, students will explore mathematics from a new and exciting vantage point. Our inquiry-based learning model will have a heavy focus on collaboration and teamwork so students should be prepared with their minds sharp and ears ready to listen.
